About Me Magazine Cover Story with Ellen Doreen

So You Want To Have A Psychic Reading
by Ellen Doreen Psychic/Medium

Understanding what psychic ability encompasses will help you as you look for a good reader.  To that end, I would like to answer some questions I am most frequently asked about my gift.

Q: As a psychic am I also a mind reader?
A: No, I wouldn't want to do that even if I could.  Nobody has the power to infringe on something so personal.

Q: If you are so psychic how come you don't win a million dollars on the lottery?
A: Boy, I wish it worked that way.  The gift is not used that way for the reader or the client.

Q: If your psychic ability is a God given gift how come you charge for a reading?
A: I charge for my time and training, not my gift.  An artist has a God given gift, but will still charge you for the time it takes to paint the picture.

Q: Can I read for myself?
A: No, not in the same way I can read for another person, but my gift helps to guide and direct my life work and path.

Q: Am I 100% accurate?
A: Absolutely not!  I don't know any psychic who is.  And no, I don't create your future.  A good psychic reading can give the seeker a glimpse at future doors of opportunity. You have, first and foremost, the gift of free will.  Only YOU in the end can decide what is best for you.

If a reader tells you there are black clouds all around you, or you're surrounded by bad energy, or might indicate you have been cursed, pick up your money and run!  If they say they will light candles and pray for you if you pay them more money, snap your pocket book closed and leave.  Allowing someone to have that much control over you is the only curse that can hurt you, you can light your own candles, it will probably cost a lot less, and your own prayers will work just fine!

Finally, when you do find a good, clear reader, there are some things you can do to get the most out of your reading.  Don't go to the reading with pre-conceived notions or expectations; listen with an open heart.  Trust yourself. Let your intuition lead the way.  Write your questions down in an organized manner.  Most good psychics will let the session be taped, if not take notes.   A good psychic is a good guide, not a psychiatrist.  Also remember the psychic is not God.  Relax and enjoy your reading. It should be informative and helpful. And in the end remember you and only you can and should make the decisions that affect your future.

WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW
ABOUT ABRAHAM’S SECRET ANYWAY?

Written by Ellen Doreen Loegering
Psychic/Medium

Does this sound like CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL, or metaphysical alphabet soup?  The title for my article of course, refers to the hullabaloo, which has occurred around the books, WHAT THE BLEEP DO WE KNOW ANYWAY?, ABRAHAM, and THE SECRET.  As a metaphysical practitioner, I worry sometimes that the words we choose to explain esoteric ideas might get misused, misinterpreted, or even get completely ignored because of a lack of practical understanding.  Words like: synchronistic, demonstration, attraction, negative thinking, and affirmation might sound very simple but exactly how do we use these words in our daily life?  It’s very much like listening to engineers at the Space Center talking in acronyms.  I hear the words but have no idea how to apply them.

I have had the feeling for a while that people have misunderstood and possibly misused the concepts that were taught.  I have heard mutterings and discontent lately when people refer to THE SECRET.  My worse fears were confirmed the other day. I was saying good-bye to my client whom I’ll call Carol. (Not her real name.)  As we finished, she asked me if I had heard about THE SECRET.   Since THE SECRET had been aired on Oprah I would have had to dead to be so uninformed.  I smiled and nodded.  “Well,” she said, “I tried it and I hate it.  It doesn’t work and I’m worse off today than I was before.”

Carol is a single Mom raising a young boy I’ll call Billy.  She has no family close by and an ex-husband that doesn’t help much.  Billy’s Dad lives in another state.  She is trying to do the best she can but on limited income she has used her credit cards to make ends meet.   “I watched the CD about THE SECRET,” Carol continued,  “I thought, okay, I need $50,000.00.  So I put that idea out to Spirit and waited.”

“What happened?”

“Nothing. Absolutely, nothing!”

“How did you work with Spirit to help you get your $50,000.00?” I asked her.  I was really concerned about how she would answer.

“Well,” she continued, “I made a demonstration just like they said to do in the movie.  You know, I tired to show Spirit that I believed that my needs would be met and I would get the money.”

With growing trepidation I inquired how she made her demonstration.

“Hum, you’re going to think this is crazy,” she continued, “ but I needed some new clothes for work so I went out and bought them.  I didn’t really have the money, so I charged them.  I told myself that Spirit would help me because I was using positive thinking and the money would come to pay everything off.  Now I’m in worse financial shape than I was before. The money never came.  Now I think I blocked the attraction by fearful, negative thinking. This is probably entirely my fault!”

I didn’t think she was crazy, and I know this was not her fault. I have heard many people say they have interrupted the message from The Secret, as “putting your list out to the Universe and then just sit back and watch everything start rolling in.”   Carol heard the information and tried to use it to her advantage.  I suggested to Carol that we work together using the principles of the law of attraction for 8 weeks.  If she didn’t see improvements by then she could abandon the idea altogether. Carol agreed.

In the movie THE SECRET, Jack Canfield talks about how his book, CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL, got published through a series of synchronistic events.  We all know that he became a very wealthy man. The first rule then is; HE HAD ALREADY DONE THE WORK.  He had already written the book. When he needed to figure out how to market his book, the inspirations came in miraculous or synchronistic ways.  I would very much like to believe that 50,000 dollars will drop on me from the sky, but for most of us that is not going to happen. You have to do something.  To help Carol I just needed to give her some definitions for the words she had heard.

I asked Carol what she needed to get through the next week.  She thought for a minute and said, “I need money to buy gas, food, to pay my FPL bill, and the water bill.  I need to put $50.00 away for rent, and Billy needs new shoes.”

“How much does that come to?”

“Well, $40.00 for gas (if you drive a very small car or motorcycle), $75.00 for food, $80.00 for the power bill, $30.00 for the water and $200.00 for Billy’s shoes.”

After a little discussion ,we established Billy’s shoes could cost as little as $50.00 but he wanted the fancy $200.00 pair.  Carol needed first to understand the difference between “wants and needs.”  I knew she didn’t want to make Billy unhappy.  She wanted to give him the best of everything.  What she didn’t realize was the stress she was creating by trying to provide more than she could afford was causing more distress and unhappiness for both of them.  Together we put the first week’s priorities in place.

Carol was surprised when I told her not to cut up her credit cards, but to put them in a locked, safe place.  Then she could carry the key with her and feel safe.  If she cut her cards up she would have no back up that would created fearful and negative thinking, blocking herself from trusting and believing her needs would be met. Carol’s agreement with Spirit, according to THE SECRET, would allow Spirit to work with her to provide for her needs and NOT use her credit cards.  The first week went well but uneventfully.  All of her needs were met and she didn’t use her cards.  She didn’t get Billy’s shoes so we moved them to the next week.  Carol and I agreed that no matter what happened Billy’s shoes would have to be purchased by the end of the next week.  However, if Carol had to use her credit cards she would only charge the amount they needed, that would be her demonstration.  I told Carol it was a good plan using the law of attraction.  Without fear, knowing she had back up (her credit cards) if she needed it, she could relax and expect miracles.

On Thursday the next week, Carol called me.  I could hear the excitement and astonishment in her voice.  She reported that her friend, Jan had been at Molly Mutt, the Central Brevard Humane Society Thrift Store, in Rockledge, on Wednesday. She found Billy’s shoes.  They were brand new, just his size, the tag was still on the shoes, and they hadn’t even been laced.  Molly Mutt was having a sale to reduce inventory so the shoes were only $10.00.  Then her friend went to the Farmer’s Market at the Gazebo, in downtown Cocoa Village.  The fresh fruit and vegetables were so beautiful and inexpensive she bought more than she could use.  She also bought delicious freshly made bread and meat pies from the Proper Pie Company.  Jan drove to Carol’s house with shoes for Billy and bags and bags of groceries. When Carol went to pay her friend, Jan told her to put her money away.  This was her gift to them.

Carol has continued to use the law of attraction in her life even though her 8 weeks have long since expired.  Without fear, she willingly works with Spirit expecting that her needs will be met.  Carol began to see that by working with Spirit she not only got her needs met, but her “wants” also began to manifest in unexpected ways.  Her credit cards remain locked up.  She is more relaxed and in control than she has been for years.  She is even teaching Billy the law of attraction.

This story has an even better ending.  The other day Carol came by my office. She was glowing with excitement.  It seems her boss had approached her that morning.  He told her many of the costumers had taken the time to stop by and tell him how wonderful Carol is to work with.  She is always so pleasant.  With a smile on her face and in a very relaxed and confident manner she helps to solve their problems.  Her boss told her he had been watching her and agrees with the customer’s assessments.  A management position has become available.  Carol is in training for the job.  When she takes over full time she will receive a substantial raise.  I’m so happy for her, but I’m not really surprised. This is how the law of attraction works.  This is THE SECRET.
